Court packet

Show one record without handing over the rest.

A court packet is one small file: one note from your record, and the proof that it matches the record. Without a witness pin, that shows the note matches this computer's own record. With a pin, it shows the record was not changed after the pin. You hand over that one note's text, not your whole record.

One note, wholeChecked against its own row. (Sample)

How to make one

In the app, a few clicks.

Open the Log, find the file's newest row, and press Make a court packet. Pick where to save it. You get one zip file holding:

  • the note itself;
  • its row in your record, and the proof that the row is in the record;
  • the witness's receipts, when you keep them;
  • an exhibit page in plain words: the fingerprints, the times, and what it proves and does not;
  • a certification form to fill in and sign. It is a template, not legal advice.

Anyone can check it on their own computer with the seal checker. Check it yourself.

What it proves, and what it does not

Read both lists before you rely on it.

It proves

  • This note is the same, byte for byte, as the note your record sealed at that row.
  • That row is in the record the packet's proof leads to.
  • Without a witness pin: the note matches this computer's own record, nothing more.
  • With a witness pin: the record was not changed after the pin.

It never proves

  • That the facts in the note are true.
  • Who wrote it.
  • Anything that was never written down.
  • When the note was really written. The time on the row is the record's own clock.
  • Without a pin, that the whole record was not rewritten on this computer.
  • That a court will accept it. That is up to the court.

The witness time

A time only when the witness saw this exact point.

A packet names a witness time only when it is tied directly to the point the witness signed: the record just after this note's row. Every other packet says UNVERIFIED for the time, names no time at all, and says a full bundle is needed to tie the note to the witness.

The certification

A form to fill in and sign.

Certification of a record, identified by its hash value (shortened)

Not legal advice. This template is a starting point only. Whether a certification like this is accepted, and in what words, is for a lawyer where the case is heard and for the court.

I,  , declare as follows:

  1. I am   (title or role). My qualifications are  .
  2. The record is identified by its file name, size and SHA-256 hash value, filled in for you in the packet.
  3. On   (date) I computed the hash of the copy and compared it with the value above. They are identical.
  4. I checked the packet with  , and its result, word for word, was  .
  5. What I say about the record's time is limited to the witness receipt it carries, if any.

The full form is in every packet. Print it or copy it out first: the copy inside the packet must stay as it is, or the packet's check fails.

Arcaeon is a record tool, not a law firm. A court packet and its form do not make a record admissible, and filling in the form does not make anything true. Whether a court accepts a packet depends on the court and the rules where you are. If it matters, ask a lawyer.
